Red Dragon Tattoo

Here is 20-year-old-Daughter's newest ink, which is my favorite of her tattoos.

This is her teeny, little ankle. I woke her up to take this picture. She was a little cranky about it. Bitch.

As a child, one of her favorite books was Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher by Bruce Coville. So she wanted the dragon to be red with green eyes, like Tiamat. I can't help but think of Fountains of Wayne's song...

• Do any of you blog for the money?
• If you do, do you actually make any?
• Just curious because I was reading about some Summit or something that a bunch of people I had never heard of (except Jenny, the Bloggess, who is my personal blogging hero) and there's a bunch of carping about blogging as a business and sponsorship and blah, blah, blah.
• I did one review, but it was just because I really like the artist. I tend to be a stickler about paying for stuff. We have friends that borrow CD's or DVD's and if we know they are going to pirate a copy we will usually say no. If we borrow something and like it, we'll buy our own copy. It's not that I care about the publishing company or the label. I want the artist to make money so they don't have to get a day job.
• When we first moved into the home where we live, our neighbors had two small children that played frequently with ours. Now they are all grown up, and one of them stops by occasionally. He's a very bright kid, but he never, ever, ever, ever stops talking or goes away. I sometimes hide when he comes to the door. The other night I thought my son had friends coming over, so I opened the door.
• If this post seems more random than most, it's because I have a person at my house talking at me incessantly, and pacing back and forth in my living room, while I type. Usually, Husband Styro is home to distract this visitor and chat for hours with him about movies.
• Husband Styro drove to visit his 98-year-old grandmother today (the day I'm typing this, not today-today). She lives about three hours away IN HER OWN HOUSE, BY HERSELF. Because she insists on it. She has a neighbor who checks in on her daily.
• I am having trouble getting used to how soon it's getting dark out. And we haven't even switched to/from Daylight Savings Time, whichever it is.
• I am trying to enjoy the autumn and upcoming-winter weather, and not suffer through it, like I usually do. Although the possibility exists that I actually do hate it, and I wasn't just whining because I was depressed.

Sometimes Other People Do My Job For Me

One of my favorite new sources of information is MyLiblog, written by Jamie Larue. It was through his site that I found the Happiness poster, and he was the one who wrote the wonderfully reasoned letter to a disgruntled library patron (previously linked to on the Women's Colony).

On Thursday, Jamie had another priceless link that left me torn between laughing and crying. I was just looking at the website for the North Carolina Baptist fruitcakes who are celebrating Halloween with a book burning. Are they burning Dan Brown's books, you ask? Or the Kama Sutra? No they are burning the WRONG VERSIONS of the bible. They are burning books by Mother Theresa and Billy Graham.

I am not a Christian, but can I just say that even I am offended at the ridiculous name this kind of action gives to people who are real Christians? I know real Christians. I am married to one. I read the blogs of many people who are out-loud Christians. REAL CHRISTIANS DON'T BURN BOOKS. Real Christians teach and love.

Now the laughter part...the Telegraph.co.uk had this to say:

"The book-burning is hoped to be a social event, with a barbecue laid on for attendees. It is not clear whether the meat will be grilled over the heat of burning Gospels."
