In the spirit of Christmas, I have lifted this meme from blueviolet from A Nut in a Nutshell. Thus expressing my admiration and esteem or something. Mostly it meant I didn't need to think of something to write for you to read whilst I was having needles stuck in undignified parts of my body. If you are reading this in the EARLY a.m. (Eastern Time), say, 6-ish? I am probably being sedated. If you are reading after, say, 10-ish, I am probably home sleeping it off. It's Tuesday night right now, and I think I am freaking out about tomorrow, so if you could go back in time and distract me, I'd appreciate that. kthxbai!
1.) Have you started your Christmas shopping?
Forgoing 1/3 of one's income means that Christmas is a holiday of very few gifts. Which is great, because the last thing we need is more stuff. I am hoping for a book, a pair of socks, and a couple new t-shirts. Had I kept the job, I'd be lobbying for a Kindle to make up for being supremely unhappy at work. I'll take the socks.2.) Tell me about one of your special traditions.
We usually wait until everyone is home to put the ornaments on the tree. Husband Styro puts on the soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas. Sometimes there's hot cocoa, too.3.) When do you put up your Tree?
Sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Seriously, it depends on how busy we are. I'm hoping it's up by the time you read this post so I can send a picture to Jenn on the Edge.4.) Are you a Black Friday shopper?
There is not enough incentive in the world to get me to stand in line to buy things. Almost ever, not just at Christmas.5.) Do you travel at Christmas or stay home?
We usually alternate travelling on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Some family out of state, some here.6.) What is your funniest Christmas memory?
Probably my dad falling asleep in the middle of opening a present. It was on his lap, and the torn flap of paper was in one hand. In his defense, I think he had recently had surgery or some kind of illness. Before my parents died, nearly every major holiday was marked by one of them needing surgery for one thing or another.7.) What is your favorite Christmas Movie of All time?
I gotta go with Bill Murray in Scrooged. I watch it every year while wrapping gifts. On the other hand, my favorite Christmas radio show is a recording I have of the Prairie Home Companion's 1986 Pre-Christmas Show. They turn Handel's Water Music into a Christmas Operetta.8.)Do you do your own Christmas Baking, what’s your favorite treat?
I have begun to do a little more baking, as it seems to be more fun than regular cooking, and that way we always have something sweet in the house. I don't make them myself, but I love those candy cane cookies, dipped in hot cocoa.9.) Fake or Real Tree?
Fake, BUT...20 years ago, we invested in a $300 fake tree. Nobody ever believes me that it's fake. At $40 bucks a tree, I figure we have saved $500 so far. Last year, I took off the bottom 10 inches of the pole, and removed the lowest layer of branches. It fits our eight-foot ceiling much better now.10.) What day (as a Mom) does the actual panic set in to get it all done?
Usually, about the 15th. This year, I'm not sure. We'll see how it goes.11.) Are you still wrapping presents on Christmas Eve?
Yup. All of them. I never even try before that.12.) What is your favorite family fun time at Christmas?
Every year, we pile in the car and go through the Wayne County Festival of Lights.13.) What Christmas craft do you like the best?
I actually LOVE to make presents. Sew simple little things, personalize stuff. I've never had much time to do it before, so this year is a little different.14.) Christmas music. Yes or No, and if yes What is your favorite song?
Definitely. But not until after Thanksgiving. There is a radio station here, that by popular demand, starts non-stop holiday stuff on November first! That would make me twitch. I love Vince Guaraldi, George Winston, and Tennessee Ernie Ford the most.15.) When do you plan to finish all your shopping?
Whenever I figure out it is what I still need to acquire? Maybe after next payday, too. NO credit cards this year. For the first time in our lives, we have NO credit card debt. I intend for it to stay that way.
