After yesterday's phone-it-in post, I decided I owed you a good story. And I have a couple tidbits I was saving from our trip.
On long car trips, I tend to zone out, and get sleepy. On the way south to Dayton, I was doing what I could to remain awake and help Husband stay alert for driving. Few places are as boring to drive as northern Ohio, unless you've been to southwestern Michigan. Flat, flat, flat.
At one point, Husband proudly pointed out that we were "in the gap." See illustration.
This is an exact quote (I wrote it down), "If I had been smart enough to think up a super power, this would have been it."
He doesn't want to fly or have x-ray vision or superhuman strength. He wants to be able to drive...in the gap.
Part Two.
Since The Odd Couple, we have been listening to lots of era-specific music. Because it's awesome. Husband has acquired a great Mancini collection, as well as a really nice Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass best of CD. I had forgotten that Herb Alpert had a mid-80's hit with the song "Rise," but upon listening, it brought back very specific memories.
I called younger sister from the car, and asked her to listen to the song for a minute, then tell me what came to mind. I had her on speakerphone.
"Oh, yeah. It's Laura's rape song." (General Hospital fans are already there. There was a scene in which Luke Spencer takes advantage of Laura one night at the bar they both worked at, and this music played through out the scene, scarring her forever, or something).
The excellent part was that Husband said, "Shouldn't "rape" be in quotes?"
Hear my jaw hitting the floor of the car? "How in the WORLD would you know that?"
"Everyone knows that."
"You KNOW about General Hospital? When did you ever watch General Hospital?" I was stunned, and laughing my butt off at the same time. He claims everyone around our age knows about the Luke/Laura love/hate thing.
Anyone care to chime in and verify/disprove?
